Pickin’ Cotton in Topeka

By John Johnson

Kansas Governor

Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius (center) stopped briefly at the display to greet KCA President Bob Miller (right), a cotton producer and PCCA member from Wellington, Kan., and Gary Feist, general manager of Southern Kansas Cotton Growers Cooperative Gin.

Representatives of the Kansas Cotton Association (KCA) participated in Agriculture Day at the Capitol in Topeka on March 20. To help educate state legislators, staff and visitors, the association displayed a full-size cotton bale, samples of jeans made from American Cotton Growers denim, and photographs of various stages of cotton production.

Brochures and other educational materials about the growth of Kansas cotton production and the crop’s economic impact also were distributed in the Capitol rotunda.
